When it comes to pigmentation and sun damage, at home skincare often isn’t enough. This is when we rely on specialized laser treatments like Lumecca IPL to give us the results we need.
What is Lumecca IPL?
Lumecca IPL, short for Intense Pulsed Light, is a treatment designed to address a range of skin irregularities, ranging from sun damage and age spots to visible vasculature and pigmentation issues. Unlike traditional laser treatments, IPL uses broad-spectrum light to target specific skin concerns with precision and effectiveness.
How does it work?
Lumecca IPL harnesses the power of high intensity pulses of light, which penetrate deep into the skin’s layers. The light energy is absorbed by specific skin pigments, such as melanin and hemoglobin, effectively breaking down pigmentation irregularities, reducing redness, and stimulating collagen production for smoother, more youthful skin.
What can be treated?
Lumecca IPL can effectively treat several skin issues including:
- Sun Damage: Reducing sun spots, freckles, and discolouration caused by prolonged sun exposure.
- Age spots and Hyperpigmentation: Diminishing dark spots, pigmented lesions, and uneven skin tone.
- Vascular lesions: Addressing spider veins, broken capillaries, and rosacea.
- Fine lines and wrinkles: Improving skin texture and reducing signs of aging.
- Acne scarring: Minimizing the appearance of acne scars and blemishes.
What is the treatment like?
Your aesthetician will apply a cooling gel to the treatment area before you begin. Once the treatment begins you may experience a mild snapping sensation similar to the snapping of a rubber band as the pulses of light are delivered. The treatment is relatively quick at about 20-30 minutes for a full face and typically requires minimal downtime, allowing patients to resume their daily activities immediately afterward.
How many treatments do I need?
The number of sessions needed depends on individual skin concerns and desired outcomes. For best results you can expect a treatment plan of about 3-6 sessions with 4-5 weeks between each to give your skin a chance to recover and rejuvenate post treatment.
What happens post treatment?
Immediately post treatment you may experience mild redness but this will subside shortly. Afterward you will notice a temporary darkening of the pigment as those fragmented particles closest to the surface of the skin slough off naturally, which typically lasts 4-7 days. It will look like coffee grounds on your skin. Results will continue to develop over the following weeks. Depending on severity you could see results after your first treatment, although you should expect 3+ sessions to fully fade pigmentation and renew complexion.
